With the year winding down, we here at Salazen wanted to reflect on all of the incredible music that came out in twenty sixteen. So we sat down and the four of us picked our favorite albums of the past year!

Read about the five albums our photographer Emily picked:

------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is honestly my favorite album of the year because I was waiting for it for a while. I remember when they recorded it and it was finished before warped tour and they kept talking about it and killing me with anticipation. I just became a fan of them this year but i quickly became familiar with all their music, and this album is their best work and it really shows how far they've come as a band. Every song is not only catchy, but incredibly well written. I've always admired Awsten's writing but this album exceeded my expectations. It is very honest and emulates a lot of raw emotions especially with "Powerless" and "21 Questions". I can't stop listening to it and there are so many lyrics that I relate to. Another thing that I really love about Waterparks is their capacity to push genre boundaries. They do not fit into one genre and they have one of the most unique sounds that I've personally heard. I can't even pick a favorite song but I think my top 3 are Royal, Plum Island and Powerless. Waterparks is honestly taking over.

This album is one of my favorites because every song gets me so pumped. I also just became a fan of Out Came The Wolves, this year when I saw them on Tour with Myka Relocate back in June. It was a little hard to get into them because I've just now started to like music with screaming in it but honestly OCTW has a very unique sound and that's one of the things that I like about them. My favorites are definitely Queen Mary, Bleed and Baby Blue. Cameron does a fantastic job of conveying emotions through the songs and it makes them all the more powerful.(so does the rest of the band with their playing). I also listen to this album all the time and frequently love to blast it and sing at the top of my lungs. They're also incredible live. This album is the product of them completely re-inventing themselves so I really can't wait to see what they have in store for the future.

I've been a Summer Set fan for years now and this album did not disappoint me at all. The Summer Set has always spread a positive message throughout their music accompanied with very upbeat and also very powerful, emotional songs. Listening to this album makes me feel very good and it's definitely something I would listen to if i needed a pick up in mood. When I listen to each song, I can see a story play in my head. This album feels like a mix of Legendary and Everything's fine, which are both incredible albums. The Summer Set never fails to fill their music with a ton of passion and energy. They definitely slay in the Pop genre but there are also technical elements that give them a unique sound. I think the energy is definitely what drives the album.

I was a huge Jonas Brothers fan, just like most people my age and Joe was always and will always be my favorite. I love this album because I can tell that this is exactly what he wanted to do and that he is happy and satisfied with it. His first solo project, Fast Life, he expressed was not what he really wanted to do, it was sort of something that Hollywood Records forced him into. DNCE, however, feels like it IS JOE. He has full control over his music now and it really shows. Every song makes you want to dance, (lol) and is catchy, upbeat and honest. Joe literally doesn't give a f*** now and it's beautiful (since much of his life was controlled and filtered).

I have literally been sleeping on Too Close To Touch for so long, but now that I have finally had the chance to listen to them (and see them on twice on the Retrograde Tour) I am literally kicking myself. Keaton has such a passion in his voice throughout each song of the album that resonates both live and on recording. TCTT also has a unique sound that makes them stand out to me. They have a certain aesthetic to them that is very pleasing to me. They're also all super nice. So far, Miss Your Face, Crooked Smile and What I Wish I Could Forget are my favorites. I personally feel that Miss Your Face emulates the most raw emotion. These guys are definitely going places and I can't wait to see what's next for them.
