Album Review: Youth In Revolt
Youth in Revolt, armed with a new front man, are set to release their album The Broken on January 20, 2017. Our own Emily Armitage got a chance to listen and let you know what you're in for!
Youth in Revolt recently went through a line up change and are now fronted by a new vocalist Tanner Allen, previously True Arahill. It's always hard when a band goes through line up changes, especially when all new vocals are involved. The first track, "The Noise" stands out the most to me; it is very upbeat and has a sound that reminds me of SECRETS. The song is comprised of strong guitar riffs that drive not only the entire song but the entire album.
The second track "Love is a Liar's Game" is one of the best lyrically. It's a very fast and upbeat song that takes on a heavy, angrier message. Tanner's vocals are not as high as True's, who's vocals resemble Kellin Quinn's, but the sound is still similar to Sleeping With Sirens.
Every track on this album seems like it would be very fun to see performed live because the tracks have so much energy radiating from them. This is the perfect album to play in the car on a long road trip. The title track "The Broken" is fast paced that is driven by the drum beats rather than the guitar with very determined and meaningful lyrics. The vocals, both clean and not don't sound overly auto tuned, they are very smooth and easy to understand. Tanner also has a good vocal range. The stand out tracks are "The Noise", "Love is A Liar's Game", "Not Giving Up", "The Broken" and "Sleep." Again, it can be very tough to change vocalists, but the album proves that Tanner is a good fit. Everyone, even long time fans that may be disappointed due to True's departure, should give the album a chance.
